Als Nachfolger von "Run for Cover" nahm Gary Moore "Wild Frontier" im Townhouse in London auf. Der Titelsong sollte von Phil Lynott gesungen werden, der aber im Januar 1986 verstorben war.

Das Album erreichte in UK, Deutschland und der Schweiz die Top 10 der Albumcharts. Gold-Auszeichnungen für überragende Verkäufe gab es in Australien, Finnland und Norwegen.
