Der Soundtrack neu aufgelegt
Frank Zappas »200 Motels« wird 2021 50 Jahre alt. Zur Feier der berühmten »Surrealistic Documentary« aus dem Jahr 1971 erscheint der Original-Soundtrack jetzt noch einmal, und zwar als remasterte Doppel-CD beziehungsweise Doppel-LP (180g) mit kompletter Originalverpackung inklusive Booklet und Poster sowie als Limited Super Deluxe Boxset mit sechs CDs mit dem Soundtrack und jeder Menge Bonusmaterial, darunter Demos, Studio-Outtakes, Mixes und Interviews und mehr. Verpackt ist das Deluxe-Set in einem 64-seitigen Hardcover-Buch in einem 12ʺ × 12ʺ Schuber. Die Verpackung entspricht dem Original-Booklet, das mit aufschlussreichen neuen Anmerkungen von Pamela Des Barres, Ruth Underwood und Joe Travers sowie dem Essay von Patrick Pending aus der Neuauflage von 1997 aktualisiert wurde, und ist vollgestopft mit Bildern aus dem Film und seiner Entstehung, von denen viele noch nie zuvor veröffentlicht wurden. Das Sammlerstück enthält außerdem einen speziellen »200 Motels«-Schlüsselanhänger, einen »Do-No-Disturb«-Motel-Türanhänger und eine Nachbildung des Originalfilmplakats in Originalgröße. Das jeweilige Tracklisiting finden Sie im Folgenden.Die 50th Anniversary Editionen wurden vom Zappa Trust autorisiert und von Ahmet Zappa und Zappa Vaultmeister Joe Travers produziert. Für die Neuauflage wurden alle Aufnahmen von Toningenieur-Legende Bernie Grundman bei Bernie Grundman Mastering neu gemastert.
»200 Motels« ist ein surrealer Musikfilm aus dem Jahr 1971, geschrieben und inszeniert von Frank Zappa und Tony Palmer, mit Musik von Zappa. Er brachte Zappa und seine Band The Mothers mit Ringo Starr als »Larry The Dwarf« sowie Frank Zappa und Keith Moon als »The Hot Nun« zusammen, zeigte Pamela Des Barres in ihrem Schauspieldebüt, den bekannten Schauspieler Theodore Bikel und eine unglaubliche Auswahl an Charakteren in einer surrealistischen Dokumentation über das bizarre Leben eines tourenden Musikers. Er vereint respektlose komödiantische Sketche, verrückte Satire, atemberaubende Animationen und virtuose musikalische Darbietungen von The Mothers und dem Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Die Filmmusik ist ebenso vielfältig, ein wildes Sammelsurium von Avantgarde-Rock- und Orchesterkompositionen, die mit Dialogen aus dem Film durchsetzt ist.
