Die legendären Progressive Metaler Fates Warning feierten 30-jähriges Jubiläum ihres dritten Albums, Awaken the Guardian, im Jahr 2016. Es war ihr letztes Album mit Sänger John Arch. Das Line-up dieser Ära wurde von Bassist Joe DiBiase, Schlagzeuger Steve Zimmerman, zusammen mit dem aktuellen Gitarristen Frank Aresti und natürlich Jim Matheos abgerundet. Awaken the Guardian war außerdem die erste Veröffentlichung der Band, die auf den Billboard Charts debütierte.
Awaken the Guardian bleibt eines der wichtigsten Alben für die Fans der Band weltweit. Das Decibel Magazin setzte es in ihrer Hall of Fame auf Platz Nr. 134, und jedes Mitglied spricht immer noch mit großem Stolz von dieser Platte, weggeblasen durch das großartige Feedback, das es seit seiner Veröffentlichung vor 30 Jahren erhalten hat.
