Mit »Sparkle and Fade« hatten Everclear Erwartungen geschürt, die sie mit »So Much for the Afterglow« 1997 einlösen wollten – was sich an Songs wie »One Hit Wonder«, »White Men in Black Suits« und natürlich dem Titeltrack ablesen ließ. Das Album erhielt doppelt Platin, drei Singles landeten in den Top-Fünf der Charts und brachte der Band 1998 eine Grammy-Nominierung als »Billboard Modern Rock Artist of the Year« ein.
Das Remastering für Intervention Records übernahm Kevin Gray. Die LP mit 33 1 / 3 RPM wurde auf 180-Gramm-Vinyl gepresst und erscheint im stabilen Gatefoldcover.
