Im Jahr 1968, kurz nachdem Gene Clark die »Byrds« verlassen hatte und Doug Dillard die »Dillards«, gründeten der Singer-Songwriter und der Bluegrass-Banjo-Spieler das Country-Rock-Duo »Dillard and Clark«. Ihr erstes Album »The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard and Clark« wurde im gleichen Jahr beim Label A&M veröffentlicht. Begleitet werden sie unter anderem von Bernie Leadon, der auch sechs der Songs für das Album beisteuert.
Das Remastering für Intervention Records übernahm Kevin Gray. Die LP mit 33 1 / 3 RPM wurde auf 180-Gramm-Vinyl gepresst.
