Mit einer Besetzung bestehend aus John Norum von Europe an der Lead-Gitarre und Billy White von der Thrash-Metal-Band Watchtower als zweitem Gitarristen und Don Dokken selbst kommt »Up From The Ashes« einem Hard Rock-Brecher gleich, weil's nämlich genau ein solcher ist!
Mit Accept-Bassist Peter Baltes und King Diamond-Schlagzeuger Mikkey Dee hat Don Dokken eine echte Super-Band zusammengetrommelt. Songs wie »Crash N' Burn«, »The Hunger« und »Give It Up« haben immer noch das klassische Dokken-Gefühl während »When Some Nights«, »Stay« und »Forever« die melodischere, sanftere Seite von Don als Songwriter zum Ausdruck bringen.
