Credited for sparking the 1960s folk revival in England, Davy Graham has inspired artists and fellow players such as Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Paul Simon. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin have cited Graham as an influence to their music, and bands such as Fairport Convention and Pentangle also show large Graham influence. Recently, he has been working closely and consistently with singer-songwriter Mark Pavey, he has once again returned to the stage, playing live acts, and has also been working once again with familiar guitarists and friends, including Bert Jansch, Duck Baker and Martin Carthy.
Midnight Man is Davy's second adventure on LP from 1966, and features covers of Lalo Schifrin ('The Fakir'), Beatles ('I'm Looking Through You'), Blind Willie Johnson and Herbie Hancock ('Watermelon Man') as well as 'Stormy Monday' and his own 'No Preacher Blues'.
Redolent of those heady days, it features incredibly evolved guitar arrangements and showcases Davy's inimitable vocal style.
This record can be described as being Davy's "Beat" record and was a hit with Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and Alex Trochhi. It´s reissue coincides with Davy´s 2007 tour, in anticipation of his new album "Broken Biscuits".
> "He's my absolute hero, always will be" BERT JANSCH
> "Probably England's greatest guitarist" PAUL SIMON
> "I wanted to be Davy Graham." JOHN MARTYN
> "Davy was and is the Man" MARTIN CARTHY
> "Davy Graham can whistle for the money I owe him for Stairway to Heaven and White Summer" JIMMY PAGE
