Die Anfänge in einer Box
Parlophone veröffentlicht 2019 ein 5-CDs-Box-Set namens »Conversation Piece«, das sich auf Bowies frühe Entwicklung in den Jahren 1968 und 1969 konzentriert.Zu den Highlights der Box gehören Home-Demos, BBC Radio Sessions und, passend zum 50. Jubiläum, ein brandneuer 2019-Mix von »Space Oddity«, und zwar von Toni Visconti.
Dieser stellte für den neuen Mix den Titeltrack der Box, »Conversation Piece«, auf der Trackliste wieder her. Das Lied wurde ursprünglich aus Zeitgründen aus dem Originalalbum entfernt.
Das Box-Set enthält zudem zwölf bislang unveröffentlichte Tracks.
Abgerundet wird »Conversation Piece« von einem 120-seitigen Hardcoverbuch mit Erinnerungsstücken aus der persönlichen Sammlung von Bowies ehemaligem Manager Ken Pitt und dem David Bowie Archive. Die Sleeve Notes wurden von den Bowie-Experten Mark Adams, Tris Penna und Kevin Cann geschrieben. Es gibt zusätzliche Beiträge von Bowies langjährigem Freund George Underwood sowie Produzent und Freund Toni Visconti und anderen.
