1970 wurde Bootsy Collins' Funk-Band The Pacemakers von James Brown als seine Begleitband engagiert und sie wurden als The J.B.'s bekannt. 1976 veröffentlichte Bootsy "Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band", ein Ableger der Parliament-Funkadelic-Periode von 1971-1975, produziert von Funk-Bruder George Clinton. Dies war seine erste Veröffentlichung mit seiner Rubber Band. Es ist auch eines seiner besten Alben.
"Stretching Out" gilt immer noch als Funk-Klassiker. Bootsy ist nicht nur eine verdienstvolle Stimme im Funk-Genre, sein Bass klingt wie kein anderer. Mit Bootsy an Bord bekommt man das Maximum an Slammin' Funk, einen Killer-Groove und all das, was einen in Bewegung bringt. Bootsy zählt, IMHO, zu den drei größten Bassisten neben Stanley Clarke und Larry Graham.

It was released on August 6, 1976. On the album, Bootsy's output served up one side of upbeat tracks perfect for getting down & jiggy with it.
That certainly is the case on the title track »Stretchin' Out«, thrusted forward n the one' by Collins' pulsating bass.
Then the mood of the music begins to turn incrementally more intimate, so that by the conclusion of the second side, if circumstances warranted, you could end up with an appropriately sexy ballad as a sonic night cap of sorts.
Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band peaked 10th place in 1976 in the R&B Albums Chart.
