Das dritte Album in einer Trilogie von Aufnahmen des Police-Gitarristen. Nach »Metal Dog« und »Triboluminescence« war »Harmonics of the Night« als Gitarrenimprovisation für eine Museumsinstallation von Summer-Fotos gedacht.
Die Songs und die Fotos, die sie inspirierten, sind zu einem festen Bestandteil seiner Solo-Gitarrenshows geworden. Die Musik für das Album stammt von einer Lebenssituation, die Anlass einer retrospektiven Ausstellung seiner Fotografien im Pavilion Populaire in Montpellier war.
