Rainbow ist eine Zusammenarbeit des Kronos Quartetts, dem wichtigsten Quartett in Sachen neue Musik, Aserbaidschans beliebtestem Sänger traditioneller Musik Alim Qasimov und dem afghanischen Rubâb Spieler Homayun Sakhi, der als führender Rubâb Spieler seiner Generation gilt.
Die gespielten Werke beinhalten Momayun Sakhis luminöse Komposition "Rainbow" für Streichquartett, Rubâb, Tabla und zentralasiatischer Perkussion sowie verzaubernde Arrangements aserbaidschanischer Liedern interpretiert von dem Kronos Quartett und dem Alim Qasimov Ensemble.
Eine Bonus DVD dokumentiert den kreativen Prozess dieser Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Kronos Quartett, dem renommierten aserbaidschanische Sänger Aslim Qasimov und seinem Ensemble und dem afhanischen Rubâb Virtuosen Homayun Sakhi.
