Nach dem Split von The Housemartins gründeten Paul Heaton und David Hemingway The Beautiful South. Dazu gesellten sich Dave Stead (Schlagzeug), Sean Welch (Bass) und David Rotheray (Gitarre). Ab 1990 stoß Briana Corrigan als weitere Sängerin dazu und wurde 1994 durch Jacqueline »Jacqui« Abbott ersetzt. In der letzten Bandphase von 2001-2007 übernahm Alison Wheeler den weiblichen Gesangspart.
»0898 Beautiful South« wurde 1992 veröffentlicht und ist das dritte Studioalbum der Band. Das Album erreichte Platz 4 der britischen Charts. Jetzt wird das Album Remastered auf Vinyl wieder veröffentlicht.
