Western drama starring John Travolta. Bud Davis (Travolta) is a country boy new to Houston who takes to spending his evenings in Gilley's Bar where he meets cowgirl Sissy (Debra Winger). The pair soon marry, but their marital bliss is shattered when Bud sees Sissy being taught to ride a mechanical bull by ex-convict Wes Hightower (Scott Glenn). When Gilley's then announces a bull riding contest, Bud signs himself up, hoping that a victory will help him patch things up with Sissy.
