1648 wird John Steward, besser als scharlachroter Henker bekannt, zum Tode verurteilt und in einem Schrein von Messern durchbohrt. Noch im Tode schwört er Rache. Über 300 Jahre später dringt ein Fototeam in das Schloss ein, wo der Schrein bis heute versiegelt ist. Doch zu ihrem Erstaunen ist das Schloss bewohnt. Der eigensinnige Schlossherr gestattet die Übernachtung und Fotos, wobei der Schrein geöffnet wird.
