1989 ist Juri in Eisenach über den Zaun der Prager Botschaft geklettert und hat seine große Liebe Katharina und seinen Vater Willi, genannt »Comandante«, in der DDR zurückgelassen. Jahrzehntelang hat Katharina sich um den eigensinnigen älteren Herrn gekümmert. Erst als der Comandante beinahe sein Haus in Brand steckt, kehrt Juri aus Kanada in die alte Heimat zurück - und damit ins Leben von Katharina, die längst einen Mann und Kinder hat. Auch ihre beste Freundin Sibylle scheint Gefühle für Juri zu entwickeln...
