Das Jahr 1999: Durch die Explosion des auf dem Mond gelagerten Atommülls wird die dort stationierte Mondbasis Alpha 1 ins All geschleudert. Die 311 Bewohner der Station, darunter der Commander John Koenig, Dr. Helena Russell, Prof. Victor Bergman, Alan Carter, Paul Morrow, David Kano, Sandra Benes und Yasko landen fortan auf fremden Planeten und lernen deren Bewohner kennen. Maya vom Planeten Psychon wird in die Mondbasis aufgenommen und verliebt sich in den neuen Ersten Offizier, Tony Verdeschi. Bergman, Kano und Morrow sterben bei einer weiteren Explosion.
