Richard Thorpe directs this American musical drama starring Elvis Presley. The film follows young construction worker Vince Everett (Presley) who is sent to prison for accidentally killing a man. While behind bars he discovers his passion for music and begins to nurture his talent with the help of his cellmate, former country singer Hunk Houghton (Mickey Shaughnessy). After he is released over a year later, Vince attracts the attention of beautiful music promoter Peggy Van Alden (Judy Tyler) who helps him catch his big break.
