Ein Filmproduktionsteam reist zusammen mit der Rocksängerin Betty Jean und ihrer Band auf eine Insel vor Kalifornien. In der dort inzwischen verlassenen Schule soll ein Horrorfilm rund um einen irren Mörder gedreht werden. Doch der Ort ist nicht ganz verlassen, denn einer nach dem anderen wird auf der Insel brutal ermordet. Wie es kommen muss, gibt es keine Verbindung zum Festland, da der übersetzende Fischer und der Filmproduzent mitsamt Boot in die Luft fliegen. Als der Strom ausfällt, bricht Panik aus. Jeder verdächtigt nun jeden und die Filmhandlung wird bald blutige Realität.
