Als Nachfolger der Blu-ray Disc ist die Ultra HD Blu-ray ein optischer Datenspeicher für Filme im Ultra-High-Definition-Format. Die namensgebende Ultra-HD-Auflösung beträgt maximal 3840 × 2160 Pixel. Im Gegensatz zum Vorgänger werden zudem ein hoher Kontrastumfang, eine höhere Bildwiederholrate und ein größerer Farbraum unterstützt. Normale Blu-ray-Player können die neuen Medien nicht wiedergeben. Ultra-HD-Blu-ray-fähige Geräte sind in der Regel abwärtskompatibel.
Blu-Ray DiscDie Blu-Ray wurde als High-Definition-Nachfolger der DVD entwickelt und bietet ihrem Vorläufer gegenüber eine erheblich gesteigerte Datenrate und Speicherkapazität. Auf Blu-Rays können daher Filme mit deutlich besserer Auflösung gespeichert werden und bieten auf entsprechenden Bildschirmen eine enorm hohe Bildqualität. Blu-Ray-Player sind in der Regel abwärtskompatibel zu DVDs, so dass auch diese abgespielt werden können.

Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr directs this bleak, brooding meditation on inner conflict and existential angst, filmed entirely in black and white and replete with Tarr's trademark long takes and lingering camerawork. Miklos B. Szekely stars as Karrer, a listless, introspective man who plods his way through his colourless life in quiet desperation. The only light in his life is the bar he frequents, and the beautiful singer (Vali Kerekes) who performs there, with whom Karrer is hopelessly in love. But the singer is married, and Karrer must resort to cunning ways to get her husband Sebestyen (Gyorgy Cserhalmi) out of the way.
With Damnation, now available on 4K Ultra HD for the first time, BÉLA TARR emerged as one of the great filmmakers of European arthouse cinema. His signature cinematic style - haunting black and white imagery, brooding long takes and bleak landscapes - first materialises here, creating the foundation from which his later works develop (Sátántangó, Werckmeister Harmonies, The Turin Horse).
In a desolated landscape, Karrer has lived for years, cut off from the rest of the world, passing his time by staring at dumpsters and disappearing under an endless rain. His only social links are the Titanik, a pub where he spends every night, and his boss, Willarsky. Attracted by a woman who sings in this bar, he tries to seduce her.
