Willie »The Lion« Smith war ein Jazzpianist, der mit James P. Johnson und Fats Waller als Vertreter des Stride-Pianos konkurrierte. Für seine Tapferkeit im Zweiten Weltkrieg in Frankreich erhielt er den Spitznamen ›The Lion‹ Ein großartiges Schaufenster für einen feinen Pianisten, der viele Künstler, darunter Duke Ellington, beeinflusst hat und umfangreicher und unterhaltsamer Überblick über ein wichtiges Vierteljahrhundert seiner Karriere.
