Er wurde in Ghana geboren, wuchs in East St. Louis auf und hat tiefe Wurzeln in New Orleans. Bereits im Alter von zwei Jahren lernte er die westafrikanische Kultur und das Trommeln kennen und begann aufzutreten.
Braimah setzte seine lebenslange Suche und berufliche Laufbahn mit dem Studium der afrikanischen Folklore und der kulturellen Musik der afrikanischen Diaspora fort.
