To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

»Monk’s Dream« ist die erste LP, die Thelonious Monk im Jahr 1963 via Columbia Records veröffentlichte. Das »Monk Quartet« besteht hier aus Charlie Rouse (Tenor-Saxophon), John Ore (Bass) und Frankie Dunlop (Drums) und natürlich Thelonious Monk am Piano.
Das Album wurde im Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York City im November 1962 aufgenommen.
Thelonious Monk war einer der innovativsten Pianisten seiner Zeit, der seine Kollegen entscheidend beeinflusste. Selbst seine größten Anhänger waren nicht erfolgreich, wenn es darum ging, seinen Stil zu imitieren. Monks Musik war zugleich tief in der Tradition verwurzelt und seiner Zeit meilenweit voraus. Mit Duke Ellington teilt er die Ehre, zu den bedeutendsten Komponisten Amerikas im 20. Jahrhundert zu zählen. Sein bissiger Humor, seine kreative Verwendung von Sprache und sein sparsamer Umgang mit Worten sorgten aber auch für seinen Ruf, ein schweigsamer Exzentriker zu sein.
Monks Quartett besteht neben ihm aus Charlie Rouse (Tenor-Saxophon), John Ore (Bass) und Frankie Dunlop (Schlagzeug). »Monk's Dream« ist ein packendes Set von fünf Monk-Kompositionen und drei Standards, neu gemastert für Original Recordings Group.
