3 klassische Phil Woods Alben mit Bonustracks und den Original-LP Liner Notes
auf einer digital remasterten Doppel-CD.
(The Young Bloods / Bird Feathers / Birds Night: A Memorial Concert Dedicated To The Music Of Charlie Parker)
Alt-Saxophonist Phil Woods wird bei diesen Aufnahmen von Donald Byrd, Duke Jordan, Zoot Sims, Paul Chambers und Al Cohn begleitet.
AVID Jazz presents three classic Phil Woods albums plus, including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD.
“The Young Bloods”; “Bird Feathers”; “Bird’s Night” plus two tracks from “Jazz Alive! A Night at the Half Note”. 25 and 24 years old respectively when “The Young Bloods” was recorded in November 1956, alto saxophonist Phil Woods and trumpeter Donald Byrd were both busy building reputations for themselves as new hot shots on the scene. As the original liner notes attest, keen to get their sound out there while they were young and had fire in their bellies! Here they come together with relative veterans, Al Haig (33) on piano, Teddy Kotich (29) on bass and Charlie Persip (27) on drums. Phil Woods doesn’t get it all his own way on our next selection “Bird Feathers”! Also featured with their own bands are fellow alto sax men Jackie McLean and Hal McKusick. The music was so good we thought we should include the entire album for your pleasure! Oh and the great and almost forgotten Cecil Payne joins Phil on baritone sax, for his numbers! Recorded at New York’s Five Spot before a receptive and appreciative live audience “Bird’s Night” finds Phil Woods in the company of Cecil Payne on baritone sax, Frank Socolov on tenor sax, Duke Jordan on piano, Wendell Marshall on bass and Arthur Taylor on drums. Also recorded live, but this time at New York’s Half Note we have included two tracks from “Jazz Alive! A Night at The Half Note” featuring our main man Phil Woods. Here Phil joins the hosts Zoot Sims and Al Cohn on tenor saxes, Mose Allison on piano, Knobby Totah on bass and Paul Motian on drums.
All three albums plus have been digitally re-mastered
