Obwohl Etta Jones (1928-2001) nie ein bekannter Name wurde, erzielte sie als Jazzsängerin einen gewissen Erfolg. Sie trat von 1949 bis 1952 mit dem Sextett von Earl Hines auf und erhielt zu ihren Lebzeiten drei Grammy-Nominierungen, eine davon für ihre 1960er LP »Don't Go to Strangers« mit Frank Wess und Roy Haynes. Diese LP machte Etta Jones über Nacht zu einer Sensation, als der Titelsong mit Gold ausgezeichnet, die Top 40 der Pop-Charts und Platz fünf der R&B-Charts erreichte.
