Product Information
After Ella Fitzgerald disbanded her own orchestra (the former Chick Webb band) in 1941, she was free to record for Decca in a variety of musical contexts. This set puts together, in chronological order, all of the studio sides she made for that label between 1942 and 1953 singing duets with others singers, such as Louis Armstrong or Louis Jordan, or small vocal groups.
While some of those vocal formations (mainly quartets) have been long forgotten, many of her partners on these recordings are still considered stars in their our merit, for instance The Ink Spots, the Mills Brothers, The Delta Rhythm Boys, and The Ray Charles Singers.
The winds were blowing in a different musical direction in the early 1950s, and although Ella’s contract with Decca ended in 1955, she wouldn’t record any other vocal duet after the 1953 sides presented here (and until her glorious 1956-57 Verve albums with Louis Armstrong).
