»The World Of Cecil Taylor« ist das fünfte Studioalbum des radikalen Free-Jazz-Pianisten Cecil Taylor. Taylors Musik wird oft als seiner Zeit voraus beschrieben.
Dieses Album wurde von Cecil Taylor im Oktober 1960 für das Label Candid aufgenommen und kann mit Darbietungen von Taylor mit Archie Shepp, Buell Neidlinger und Denis Charles aufwarten.
Und man kann sich leicht vorstellen, wie der durchschnittliche Jazzfan auf diese Aufnahme aus dem Jahr 1961 reagiert hat. Sie stellt wohl eine gewaltige Abweichung von dem dar, was man damals unter Jazz verstand. Sie ist gleichzeitig eine moderne Annäherung an das Standardmaterial und eine genreübergreifende Erkundung, ein Dokument eines Künstlers, der die Grenzen dessen, was Jazz bedeutet und wohin er gehen kann, auslotet.
