Blakey wird auf diesen unvergesslichen Seiten von dem großen Clifford Brown (der einige Jahre später tragischerweise bei einem Autounfall ums Leben kommen sollte), Lou Donaldson, Horace Silver und Curley Russell begleitet.
Die Gruppe, die hier zu hören ist, hieß zwar noch "The Art Blakey Quintet", war aber die Keimzelle der späteren legendären Jazz Messengers.
