Born in 1922 and still active to this day, Ray Anthony is remembered as a renowned bandleader and a gentle trumpet player. This CD compiles two classic Capitol 12" albums by Ray Anthony and his Orchestra in their entirety. "Jam Session at the Tower" (1956) is a special feature for notable soloists playing with the orchestra, among them the Benny Goodman orchestra veteran Georgie Auld on tenor sax, Med Flory on alto sax, Ray Sims on trombone, and both Conrad Gozzo and Ray Anthony himself on trumpet. "I Remember Glenn Miller", on the other hand, showcases the orchestra as a whole performing tunes made famous by the great Glenn Miller band, of which Anthony had been a member from 1940 to 1941.
The affection that everyone had for Glenn Miller and his music, wrote Ray Anthony, was quite remarkable. Now that the young dancers of decades later are rediscovering the Miller story, I'm glad that I can show my personal admiration and respect for him with this album. He was a really fine teacher and leader, and that's how I remember him.
Splendid sound quality with new and careful 20-bit re-mastering.
