Als er zum ersten Mal auf der Bildfläche erschien, wurde Phil Woods oft »The New Bird« genannt, eine Anspielung auf den legendären Charlie Parker – ein Beweis für sein Saxophon-Genie, natürlich. Doch obwohl er Parker offensichtlich etwas zu verdanken hat, besteht kein Zweifel daran, dass Phil Woods ein Original war. Das Album ist wohl eine von Woods' besten Aufnahmen und enthält einen herausragenden Teil, der von Mitgliedern der Band von Quincy Jones komponiert wurde. Aufgenommen in den Nola Penthouse Studios in New York an zwei Terminen im Januar und Februar 1961 unter der Leitung von Quincy Jones.
