Second Phase is Pietro Ciancaglini's third album as band leader. This project marks the beginning of a second phase of the double bass player's artistic path.
Containing mostly original compositions (among which is the title track Second Phase) the album pulses with dynamic, singular rhythms with global appeal: David Kikosi on piano (one of the most talented modern jazz pianists worldwide, Kikosi has played with jazz legends such as Roy Haynes, Randy Brecker and Bob Berg) and Ferenc Nemeth on drums (among the most interesting drummers on the international music scene, who has played with musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Joshua Redman).
The particular rhythm section takes this album a step ahead, conferring a particular combination of American and European styles (Kikoski is an American of European origin while Nemeth is a European who has been living and working in New York for several years).
