Hello everyone,
Just a little update on the new album. The tentitive title (I say tentitive, because ya never know until you see the package) is "Play Date". The music has been mastered and sequenced by Stephen Marcussen and we have the nod from Warner Bros. So, all is in line with the June 4th release date. We are finshing the artwork now, which is the last creative process I have to go through for the album. I am really happy with how the music came out. Stay tuned for more info as it unfolds.
1 / 19 / 02 Just a little update to the new album release date. It has been pushed back by 5 weeks to June 4th. The single will still come out the end of March, beginning of April though.
1 / 9/02 Hello friends,
I am about finished with my second release for Warner Bros. As of yet, I still don't have a working title, but soon, soon I will. I have 2 more tracks to finish mixing and artwork to get done, than bang, I can exhale.
In coming up with a concept for the new record, I needed to identify what Euge Groove was about, retain that vibe and try to grow as a writer and artist as well. That said, one has no control over one's CD at all! I didn't the first time and didn't this time. CD's have lives of their own. All I did was plant the seeds and watched it grow, much in the same way as having children. You give them nourishment, love, and a bit of direction, redirection, redirection, redirection (you get the point) and they do as they wish. They keep us up at night, give us bags under our eyes, talk back from time to time, and make us question why we decided to become parents in the first place. But in the end, we are proud to show them off, knowing they came from our hearts with love. Even though each one is unique in their own way, one look will reveal that they are siblings.
The music on this effort takes me back to what inspired me to play in the first place in many ways. Paul Brown has produced 4 tracks as well as executive producer, A and R, mentor, etc., etc., for the whole baby. Myself with Mike Egizi and Mark Portman have done the rest. There is more live playing and interaction than on "Euge Groove". We did a version of Marvin Gaye's "let's get it on" that was cut completely live in the studio (including the sax, ALA King Curtis) that was blast. Peter White came through on an original Latin tune I wrote (it also features Freddie Ravel). Guitarists Paul Jackson Jr, Tony Maiden, and Dean Parks all lent their amazing talents, as well as Alex Al and Larry Kimpel on Bass and percussionists Paulinho Da Costa and Louis Conte. One of my favorite moments was to be able to get Chester Thompson, the original B3 player for Tower of Power, to play on a track. The tune has a TOP flavor, and Chester just did his thing. Wow!
All in all, I'd like to say it was all fun, but it's been a lot of hard work. The pleasure was working with the greatest musicians and watching the compositions take shape. As the saying goes, you have your whole life to make your first CD and 6 months for the second. Well, I started a year ago on my second, and I am just going to make my end of January delivery to WB, for a single in March, for and album release in late April (again, you get the picture). It feels great to be able to hit play on the CD player and hear 10 songs come out that I really am proud of.
I do hope to get a track or two up to preview either here, at WB or my mp3.com site. So check back soon for more info.
