Während der Fokus des ersten Albums Sunday at the Village Vanguard auf Scott LaFaros Soloarbeit liegt, ist »Waltz For Debby« ein Portrait des Trios, das neben Evans und LaFaro aus Schlagzeuger Paul Motian bestand. Evans zeigt hier eine andere Seite als zum Beispiel in seiner Arbeit mit Miles Davis, sein Stil ist deutlich emotionaler. Das Zusammenspiel des Trios ist beeindruckend.
