Die Gesamteinspielung der geistlichen Musik von Thomas Tallis (ca. 1505-1585) mit The Cardinall’s Musick unter Andrew Carwood findet ihr spektakuläres Finale in der Einspielung der beiden Varianten der unvergleichlichen 40-stimmigen Motette Spem in alium, zu der 1610 mit Sing and glorify eine weniger bekannte Kontrafaktur mit englischem Text entstand. Bis heute ist der Entstehungsanlass dieses Meisterwerks nicht bekannt. Wollte Tallis nur ein entsprechendes Werk Striggios übertrumpfen oder entstand es doch zum 40. Geburtstag von Königin Elisabeth I.? Das nun abgeschlossene Projekt ist ein Meilenstein in der Tallis-Diskografie.
