Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810–1876) war einer der bedeutendsten englischen Komponisten und Organisten seiner Zeit. Durch die Nutzung neuer Entwicklungen im Instrumentenbau war er in der Lage, die Grenzen der englischen Kirchenmusik in eine neue Richtung zu verschieben und einen anspruchsvollen Stil zu entwickeln, der bisweilen aber auch opernhafte Elemente integrierte. In dieser Aufnahme – der ersten, die mit einer Orgel realisiert wurde, die Wesleys eigenem Instrument ähnlich ist – wird dessen Musik vom Choir of Holy Sepulchre unter Toby Ward zu neuem Leben erweckt.
