»Heimlich im Stillen hoffe ich wohl selbst noch etwas aus mir machen zu können, aber wer vermag nach Beethoven noch etwas zu machen?« Diese vom jugendlichen Franz Schubert überlieferten Worte legen nahe, weshalb er sich erst 15 Jahre später, 1827 – bereits ein Jahr vor seinem Tod – an die Komposition seiner beiden großen Klaviertrios wagte, Werke von epischem, fast sinfonischen Ausmaß.

Bei dieser Interpretation von Thomas Albertus Irnberger, Violine, David Geringas, Violoncello und Michael Korstick, Klavier, treten Lyrisches und die thematische Arbeit, aber auch die Affekte und Brüche in der Musik hervor, die deutlich machen, welch großen Einfluss Beethovens Schaffen auf das Werk Schuberts hatte. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit dem »Notturno« D 897, während der Sonatensatz »Allegro« D 28 als Frühwerk eher in der Tradition Mozarts zu sehen ist.
