I like these performances so well that I listened to them several times in a row for the pure joy of hearing the singers do it again. The women’s voices are often quite exposed in these works. To hear their impeccable intonation simply adds to one’s delight. The notes offer some very useful information about each composer and composition. American Record Guide

Nordic Voices’ mixed six-voice configuration (two sopranos, one each of mezzo, tenor, baritone and bass) is beautifully suited to the music in this programme, and their clear radiant performances, full of character, are vividly captured by the DSD recording on this hybrid disc. Recorded in stunning SACD surround sound, this new release from Chandos brings together premiere recordings of music by Clemens no Papa and Pieree de Manchicourt, sung by Nordic voices… Management of the more fragile textures is never better than in Manchicourt’s O Virgo virginum, where the tenor / baritone blend is unsurpassed, although I wanted greater brittleness and bite to the rhythmic figurations at times. The false relations arriving in the final work presented, Manchicourt’s Agnus Dei, are supremely rude, and the unfussy sound production throughout lends an alluring rawness to the performances that sits comfortably with the genre.
