Lyrical Ballads by William Wordsworth is a groundbreaking poetry collection that helped launch the Romantic Movement in English literature. First published in 1798 with contributions from Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the book emphasizes emotion, nature, imagination, and the beauty of everyday life. Rejecting rigid poetic conventions, it uses simple language to explore human experience and the deep connection between people and the natural world. Featuring iconic poems that reflect personal reflection and rural themes, Lyrical Ballads remains a timeless work that reshaped modern poetry and literary expression.
Biography
William Wordsworth (1770-1850) was one of the most influential of the Romantic poets. He grew up in the Lake District, and was educated at Cambridge. His friendship with S.T. Coleridge led to their joint project, "Lyrical Ballads", which was published in 1798. At the same time, Wordsworth began work on what was to become "The Prelude", which was first published three months after his death, in 1850. He became poet laureate in 1843.More from William Wordsworth
