Biography

William Sharp, als Leon Schleifer in Lemberg (damals Österreich) in eine jüdische Familie geboren, studierte Kunst u.a. in Krakau, München und Berlin. Er arbeitete als Zeitungsillustrator für das Berliner Tageblatt und Volk und Zeit . 1934 musste er Deutschland verlassen. Er ging nach New York, nahm 1940 die amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft und den Namen William Sharp an. Bis zu seinem Tod 1961 lebte und arbeitete er als erfolgreicher Illustrator in Queens.
