Tropical Nephrology, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

This book offers a comprehensive introduction to the critical field of tropical nephrology, bridging the disciplines of nephrology, infectious diseases, and tropical medicine. With a focus on the interconnectedness of these fields, it highlights how numerous infectious and parasitic diseases endemic to tropical regions impact kidney health. Recognized as neglected tropical diseases by the World Health Organization, these conditions are often linked to poverty and lack of effective prevention and treatment policies.

The tropics, home to nearly 40% of the global population, are projected to encompass 55% by 2050. Many countries in these regions face significant healthcare challenges, making this book an invaluable resource for healthcare professionals and researchers dealing with tropical diseases and their complications, such as kidney injury.

This updated edition compiles 35 chapters detailing prevalent tropical diseases affecting the kidneys, offering the latest epidemiological data, clinical manifestations, and treatment options. New chapters address contemporary issues like climate change, chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology, and the impact of environment on kidney health (evidenced in chapters about Haff disease and herbal nephropathy). Essential for clinicians, nephrologists and infectious disease specialists, this book is particularly relevant for those working in tropical areas or treating travelers and immigrants.
