Timothy Zahn wurde 1951 in Chicago geboren, lebt in Oregon und ist heute einer der beliebtesten Science-Fiction-Autoren der USA. Sein bekanntestes Werk ist die sogenannte Thrawn-Trilogie, die mehrere Jahre nach dem Ende von "Die Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter" spielt und die Geschichte des Star-Wars-Universums in eine neue Zeit vorantreibt ("Expanded Univers"). Diesen Büchern folgte eine Reihe weiterer Star-Wars-Romane. Für seine Novelle Cascade Point wurde Zahn 1984 mit dem renommierten "Hugo Award" ausgezeichnet.
