Social democracy is a political ideology of the centre-left on the classic political spectrum. It is by tradition a form of evolutionary reformist socialism. The Frankfurt Declaration of the Socialist International, attended by many social democratic parties from across the world, committed the adherents to the replacement of capitalism with socialism and committed adherents to oppose Bolshevik communism. Social democracy supports gradualism, in the belief that a gradual process of reforming existing capitalist economies in a democratic manner will succeed in creating socialism. It rejects revolutionary forcible imposition of socialism.
