Her field is algebraic geometry. She took her doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1976, and was appointed professor at the University of Oslo in 1987. She is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. MIT has five schools and one college, containing a total of 32 academic departments, with a strong emphasis on scientific and technological research. MIT is one of two private land-grant universities and is also a sea-grant and space-grant university.
