Biography
Peter Burke, 1937 in Stanmore in England geboren, hat in Oxford studiert. Sechzehn Jahre lang lehrte er an der School of European Studies der University of Sussex, bevor er 1978 nach Cambridge wechselte, wo er heute Professor für Kulturgeschichte am Emmanuel College ist. Gastdozenturen führten Burke, der international als einer der bedeutendsten Kulturhistoriker gilt, in die meisten Länder Europas sowie unter anderem nach Indien, Japan und Brasilien. Seine Bücher, in denen er sich oft der Renaissance widmet, und seine rund 200 Artikel sind in über 30 Sprachen übersetzt.Notes:
