Legendary producer and record label boss Joe Boyd has spent a lifetime travelling the globe and immersing himself in music. He has witnessed first-hand the growing popularity of music from Africa, India, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe since the 1960s and was one of the protagonists of the 'world music' movement of the 1980s.

And, moreover, how jazz, rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll would never have happened if it weren't for the notes and rhythms emanating from over the horizon.

Biography

Joe Boyd wurde 1942 in Boston geboren. Nach seinem Harvard-Abschluss 1964 arbeitete er als Produktions- und Tourmanager für den Musikproduzenten George Wein. 1966 eröffnete er den legendären UFO-Club in London. Im gleichen Jahr fing er an, Platten zu produzieren. Nach Eric Clapton folgten Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, REM, Kate & Anna McGarrigle und viele andere. Bei Warner Brothers organisierte er zahlreiche Filmsoundtracks, darunter 'Clockwork Orange'. Joe Boyd leitete zwanzig Jahre sein eigenes Plattenlabel, Hannibal Records. Heute lebt er in London.
