Klappentext
A nostalgic and personal journey through the golden age of British variety club entertainment, by one of its last surviving true legendsIn October 1963, 20m viewers of ITV's Sunday Night at the Palladium saw Jimmy Tarbuck make his TV debut. Host Bruce Forsyth introduced the young comedian from Liverpool, who stepped out on stage and brought the house down. The following year Jimmy had his own TV series, and in 1965 he took over from Bruce as host of the show that defined British variety entertainment. As a youngster, Jimmy started out as a professional footballer, and it was his dream to play for his beloved Liverpool FC. Meanwhile his childhood friends, including John Lennon and Cilla Black, shot to stardom as chart-topping sensations of the Merseybeat phenomenon. But with his quick wit and charm, it was comedy that proved to be his superpower, and he brings his famous warmth and humour to his first and only autobiography. From touring with Cliff Richard, meeting Elvis in Vegas and playing golf with Bing Crosby to singing with Tom Jones and hosting Judy Garland at the Palladium, Jimmy's first-hand memories are rare gems to be treasured for generations, as those glory days of entertainment recede further in history and we start to lose touch with a bygone era. As his story reveals, Jimmy has gone through life seeing the funny side of everything, and even when times have been tough behind the scenes, he's learnt that laughter is the best medicine.
