In the early years of the twenty-first century, many older gay men, having survived a devastating pandemic (AIDS), may have found themselves dealing with a sense of survivor guilt, if only with having to answer these two quandaries: Why am I here? & Why did I survive? Here is the story of two gay men, New York theater professionals living in the epicenter of AIDS, which is decimating their community. Harold and James live together in a mutually beneficial, monogamous, HIV-negative, and loving relationship for almost fifteen years. On a rainy April Fools' Day, that love is abruptly challenged with the diagnosis of a fatal illness, which is not AIDS related. Their circle of existence grows tighter as they struggle unsuccessfully toward inevitable loss. Yet, in that loss, surprisingly positive things are found.
