Created from interviews by Gillian Slovo, the play was first performed at the National Theatre, London, in July 2023, co-directed by Phyllida Lloyd and Anthony Simpson-Pike.
Biografie
Gillian Slovo, geb. 1952, ist eine von drei Töchtern der beide legendären weißen Bürgerrechtler Joe Slovo und Ruth First. Ihre Mutter starb 1982 bei einem Attetat. Ihr Vater Joe Slovo war Rechtsanwalt, schloss sich in den 50er Jahren der kommunistischen Patei Südafrikas an und später dem ANC. Wegen seinem politischen Engagment hatte er viele Gegner, die ihn ständig mit Mordanschlägen bedrohten. Vor diesem Hinetrgrund war die Kindheit für Gillian Slovo nicht einfach und geprägt von Polizeirazzien, Verhaftungen und Prozessen. Nun lebt sie mit ihrer Familie in London und ist erfolgreiche Autorin einiger Krimis.
