Biografie (Franz Werfel)
Franz Werfel (1890 - 1945) wurde als Kaufmannssohn in Prag geboren. Während seines Studiums befreundete er sich mit Franz Kafka und Max Brod. 1917 lernte er Alma Mahler-Gropius kennen, die er später in Wien heiratete. Die Werfels emigrierten 1938 nach Frankreich, von wo sie zusammen mit Golo Mann zu Fuß über die Pyrenäen nach Spanien flohen. Über Lissabon gelangten sie schließlich in die USA. Franz Werfel starb an einem Herzleiden in Los Angeles.
