The story begins with Vermello arriving in Vienna after his airplane odyssey. He is trapped inside a half-closed suitcase and cannot escape in time. Airport staff discover him, and suddenly he is no longer seen as a curious adventurer, but as a "lost item" that nobody seems to be looking for. Behind the doors of the lost and found office, he finds himself surrounded by forgotten suitcases, lost belongings, and abandoned objects. For a cat who has experienced so many adventures, this is a painful moment. He feels abandoned, lonely, and unnecessary. Nobody seems to be waiting for him, nobody is calling his name. Children feel Vermello's sadness in these scenes and can easily understand his emotions. Adults recognize the deeper theme of belonging - the human need to have a home and people who care about us. But, as it has always been in Vermello's life, hope remains. While he is close to losing courage, two familiar people appear: Juri Lettermann and Grete Hummel. They have never forgotten Vermello. They searched for him, hoped to find him, and are overjoyed to finally have him back. For Vermello, this means a return to happiness. Together with them, he leaves the lost and found office, returns to his little basket, and finally finds the comfort and security that he had been missing throughout his many journeys. This volume is not only an exciting adventure, but also a heartfelt conclusion. It shows that every adventure eventually comes to an end - and that, in the end, love and home are what matter most. For children, it carries a comforting message: Even if you feel lost sometimes, you can always be found again. For adults, it is a reminder of the value of home, friendship, and caring for one another. But then Berthold Brösel and Bella Buntstift - Vermello's family - arrive and take him home again. After all his journeys, fears, and hopes, Vermello finally finds his home, his little basket, and the feeling of being safe and loved. The end of the journey - and the happy ending of the series.
