This manual provides a brief summary of disorders of the nervous system, or "brain". The nervous system is critical for all sensations and movements, as well as memory and cognition, providing the basis for the human interactions with the environment. The Manual covers all of these disorders, with separate chapters on each major category of disease. Alzheimer disease with impairment of memory and cognition, and Parkinson disease with its prominent movement disorder symptoms, are discussed as forms of neurodegeneration. Head injuries and the long-term consequences of repeated head trauma, such as that seen in boxers and football players, are discussed as brain trauma. Tumors, including glioblastoma, are summarized with the newest classification arising from the World Health Organization's 2021 classification system.
